The Raritan River Akita Club is proud to announce that one of its alumni, Akita breeder-owner-dog show judge Mrs. Beverly Vics of Chester, New Jersey has been approved by the American Kennel Club as a Best In Show dog show judge.
Beverly first became an approved dog show judge in 1990 for the Akita breed based on her diligence and dedication to the sport of pure-bred dogs, then it was onward and upward as she worked her way up the ladder to the coveted Best In Show judge designation. She is a popular and respected dog show judge, able to interpret all of the dog breed standards and articulate her decisions for the breed club newsletters and their readership. She was the first Akita breeder-owner to judge the Akita breed at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in 1999 and has also judged at the Akita Club of America national specialty show several times including 1998 and 2002. She is an active member of several dog clubs and associations and is presently serving as the vice-president of the Akita Club of America, the Somerset Hills Kennel Club as well as the Schooley’s Mountain Kennel Club. She is an active member of the Princeton Dog Judges Association and the American Dog Show Judges Assocation.
Beverly was the breeder and co-owner of “Ben”, Champion Tobe’s Return of the Jadai, one of the world’s top winning Akitas with twenty-seven all-breed Best In Show wins, three Akita National Specialty show wins and eight consecutive Best of Breed wins at the Westminster Kennel Club annual dog show in Madison Square Garden, including the Westminster Working Group First in 1995. She has had the pleasure of seeing over 100 dogs of her breeding go on to finish their championship.
She is responsible for introducing her husband John to the world of the dog shows and dog clubs. Mr. John Vics is now the Treasurer of the Somerset Hills Kennel Club.
Mrs. Vics is scheduled to judge the Akita breed at the all-breed Ramapo Kennel Club dog show on Sunday, October 16, 2005. This is the high point of a three-show all-breed cluster on the same site in the mountains of New Jersey. The Raritan River Akita Club Inc. is supporting the entry at this show with trophies, rosettes and prizes. All of Beverly’s many friends and fans will be out in force to exhibit their dogs in her Akita dog show ring at the Ramapo Sunday show on October 16, 2005.
